The much awaited annual high altitude running competition in Khumbu, the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon will be held on May 29th. The participants will race from Everest Base Camp to Namche Bazaar. This year’s race is expected to raise awareness on environmental pollution and climate change. The marathon’s organizing committee have signed an agreement with Extreme Everest Expeditions (EEE) to bring down the waste from the region. According to a press release issued by the organizers, 31 Sherpas of EEE have collected over 2,000 kg of wastes from above 8,000m. Participants are expected to help by volunteering to carry at least 500 grams of waste each from the base camp to Namche Bazaar. The organizers remain confident of the participants support in cleaning up the mountain.
Our tour guides and drivers in Lhasa and the rest of Tibet did an excellent job. They were friendly, knowledgeable, good humored and we had a feeling that they did their best to make it a very good trip!
