The Nepal Tourism Year 2011 Coordination Committee have decided to inaugurate Nepal Tourism Year 2011 on January 14, 2011. The committee will be inviting Tourism Ministers from twenty-two Asian countries to grace the inaugural ceremony.The target of the national campaign is to bring in 1 million tourists to Nepal by the end of 2011.The organizers are expecting 3 lakh visitors from India and 1 lakh Chinese tourists in 2011.
As part of the promotion scheme for Nepal Tourism Year 2011, the Nepalese government is offering free visas to mountaineers who have summitted Mt.Everest and another peak for two years. The government has also announced 50 percent discount on climbing fees for Dhaulagiri for the next climbing season of 2010 and for 2011 as part of the celebrations. To climb Dhaulagiri a foreign climber is expected to pay USD 5,000 as royalty to Nepal government.
Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011 Coordinating Committee is planning to bring in 3,00,000 Indian tourists to Nepal. For that purpose, NTB will hold promotional programmes at Birgunj, Biratnagar, Bhairahawa, Kakarvitta, Dhangadi, Pashupati Nagar, Janakpur and Nepalgunj – the towns bordering India.
To facilitate the visitors, Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with private sector organizations will develop a ‘one window system’ at different border points, which will facilitate Immigration, Custom, Transportation Office and other facilities required by tourists.
Nepal Tourism Board in association with Nepal Airlines Corporation and eight travel trade companies participated at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai from 4-7 May 2010. The fair was inaugerated by HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai . On the first day of the fair, his excellency Mr. Arjun Bahadur Thapa (Nepal’s Ambassador to UAE) and Mr. Dipak Adhikari, Deputy Chief of Mission, Nepal Embassy, Abudhabi welcomed VIPs and delegates at the Nepal stall. They also replied to visitors’ queries on visa, traveling formalities & “NTY 2011”. Adventure and cultural products of Nepal seemed to be quite popular among the visitors. ‘Nepal Tourism Year 2011’ also received much attention from the visitors as well as the media.
NTB in coordination with Nepal German Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Honorary Consulate of Nepal in Stuttgart organised a press conference on January 19, 2010 at Caravan, Motors and Tourism International Fair ( CMT) in Stuttgart, Germany.The program was attended by the minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Mr. Sarat Singh Bhandari , ambassadar of Nepal to Germany Mr. Suresh Pradhan, Honorary Consul General of Nepal Mrs. Ann Katrin Bauknecht, and renowned summitter Mr. Reinhold Messner. Minister Bhandari briefed on the government’s commitments in promoting tourism of Nepal with the theme of ‘Together for Tourism’ under Nepal Tourism Year 2011 campaign. The Minister also lauded the efforts of people like Mr. Messner, for helping to reform the image of Nepal as an attractive destination .
