A cycle rally was organized in Amsterdam on 20th March 2011 by the National Unity Group to promote Nepal Tourism Year 2011. Participants included Nepalis living in Netherlands, students and some locals. They distributed Nepali Brochures received from Arke Fly (a Dutch airline with direct flights from Amsterdam to Kathmandu) and Nepal Tourism Board.
NTB along with three private Nepalese travel companies participated at the 18th Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition (MITT) held in Moscow’s Expocentr’ Krasnaya Presnya Fairgrounds, from March 16-19, 2011. Detailed information of tour packages to Nepal focusing NTY-2011 was provided to the visitors as well as to the buyers. MITT is the largest travel and tourism exhibition in Russia showcasing over 3,000 companies from 120 countries and regions.
Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with Nepal Airlines Corporation participated at the MATTA (Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents) tourism fair held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 11th to 13th March 2011. Destination Nepal and Nepal Tourism Year 2011 was promoted at the fair. Visitors to the Nepal stall mostly had queries about air connectivity & fares, special packages, tourism activities during NTY-2011 etc. The fair, organized by Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents, and supported and endorsed by Ministry of Tourism in Malaysia, is Malaysia’s top consumer travel exhibition.
Sindhupalchowk district, with its Sherpa settlements, mountains and glaciers, has set a target of welcoming 40,000 international tourists on yearly basis by 2020. District Development Committee, Sindhu Panch Pokhari Development Committee and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) proposed the target as a part of the district´s tourism master plan.The plan has identified 10 destinations for trekking and prospective sites for eco-tourism, agro-tourism and water based activities among others in the district. It also proposes to develop water-based activities in Bhotekoshi and Sunkoshi rivers.
To celebrate Nepal Tourism Year 2011, Gorkha district is organizing a tourism festival at the base of Mount Manaslu from May 9 to 11, 2011. During the festival ‘Manaslu Day‘ or the anniversary of the first ascent of Mount Manaslu will also be observed.
