Annapurna Marathon on June 3rd, 2011

Annapurna Marathon will be held on June 3, where competitors will race from Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) (4550m) to Dhampus(1770m) in Kaski district, covering a distance of  42.195 kilometers43 km. Athletes will have to race through Sinuwa Danda, Chomrong, Landruk, Tolka and Pothana to complete the race.

The marathon has been organized by various tourism organizations in memory of sociologist & scholar Late Dr. Harka Bahadur Gurung and mountaineer Maurice Herzog with the aim of promoting sports and adventure tourism in the region. Cash  prizes for winners range from Rs. 50,000/-  to  Rs 15,000/- .

Annapurna Conservation Area records Highest Number of Visitors

A total of 79,900 visitors was recorded at Annapurna Conservation Area in the last fiscal year.This is the highest recorded number of arrivals in the area till date and has exceeded last year’s arrivals by 4000.Routes of popular treks like  Annapurna Circuit and Annapurna Base Camp Trek fall under this area.

Nepal featured in Time’s ‘Best of Asia 2010’

Pièce de résistance of Annapurna Trek – Chomrong’s Chocolate Cake

Nepal has remained a favourite destination among travellers and adventurers. The country’s many trails and exotic locales continues to work its magic as magazines and travel guides vote the myriad experiences to be had in this country as some of the best in the world, year after year.It’s no surpise that Nepal has made it once again to Time magazine’s “Best of Asia 2010” list. According to the magazine ‘Best of Asia’ is an annual guide about “the region’s best experiences for mind, body and soul“.

The piece on Nepal has been written by Krista Mahr.She takes the trail to Annapurna Base Camp and in the middle of nowhere(Chomrong actually), the writer gets to indulge in a heavenly delight: a generous slice of chocolate cake. The article is aptly titled “Best Chocolate Cake”.
