One of the greatest mysteries in the mountaineering world has been whether British adventurers George Mallory & Andrew Irvine reach the summit of Mount Everest before disappearing during their Everest climb in 1924. A group of Canadian and Indian scientists claim to have cracked this mystery by analyzing 1924 meteorological data from the Himalayas held at the Royal Geographical Society.According to the report, Mallory and Irvine may have died of oxygen deprivation before reaching the summit. Analyzing meteorological records and other accounts of the weather on the day the mountaineers vanished the research scholars determined that the two British climbers may have been subjected to a sudden drop in barometric pressure of as much as 18 millibars as they neared Everest’s summit, leading to their death.
