In the month of October 2007, the premises of Explore Himalaya was abuzz with expedition teams leaving and returning. Martino Morretti from Italy led an all Italian group of 14 to Island Peak. The group began their journey from Kathmandu to Lukla on the 17th Oct. They reached the Island Peak base camp on the 27th. 13 members started for the summit on 28th Oct at 2 a.m. They reached the summit at 9:30 a..m. It took them around four hours to return to the base camp. They were helped by three sherpas.
Another Italian group, comprising of 12 members led by Alberto Zucchetti, attempted to scale Mera Peak. The group took an unusual route, crossing over the Amphu Lapcha pass from Chukung valley. Five members had to return back as they suffered from AMS. One member had to be flown back by helicopter from Thyangboche to Kathmandu. Three members could not advance past Chukung. Cristina Marrani could only make it beyond the Amphu Lapcha pass. Of the 12 members, only five could make it to the summit.
