| > IMPORTANT NOTICE - SOFT SLEEPER VS HARD SLEEPER |
We try to reserve you "Soft sleeper" class. Usually we can but if we can only get hard sleeper, we refund the difference in price. Here are the details on the difference; don't worry too much about this.
The soft sleeper train ticket to Lhasa is in very high demand, and are mostly reserved for Chinese Government officials and their families. Bookings only open a week (or sometime just 3 days) before departure date so it is tricky affair to 100% guarantee soft sleeper beforehand. We do of course have very good contacts and they normally get soft sleeper but if unavailable we get hard sleeper cabin and refund the difference amount.
There is no big difference between hard and soft sleeper cabins. Our research staff traveled on both soft and hard sleeper cabins on this train, a few differences we found were... there are 6 beds in hard sleeper and 4 in soft sleeper cabin, soft sleeper has a door and hard sleeper is without, there is LCD television on soft sleeper that plays only Chinese movie (mostly military & martial art movies); the hard sleeper compartment is a little far from dining car. Cushion used in soft sleeper is softer than the "hard" sleeper but the "hard" is comfortable enough for a good sleep. Soft sleeper compartment is with 35 seats and hard sleeper with 60 seats but there is never a problem for washroom, they are plenty available. There are always security people moving between compartments, they insure that there is disturbance from fellow travelers. All cabins have oxygen supply and big UV blocking window.
