Greetings & Namaste!

A brand new year has dawned. As we bring to you the premiere edition of our newsletter for the year 2008, we would like to wish a Happy New Year to all our friends & well wishers. We hope that this year too, like 2007, will prove to be a prosperous year for the Nepal Tourism Industry. The Ministry for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) is already taking steps in this direction by trying to implement steps to explore new avenues for tourism industry.   Efforts are on to come up with a new tourism campaign. We hope that this campaign will prove to be fruitful for our tourism industry.
In this first issue, we take a recap of EH's major events in 2007. We also take a brief look on what's latest at EH and some new tourism products.
On 11th Jan' 08, the world lost a great mountaineer and a generous philanthropist, Sir Edmund Hillary. A man of the mountains, his memory shall always be cherished by the Nepalese people. May his soul rest in peace.

In the year 2007 EH organized tours, treks and expeditions in Nepal, Tibet and Bhutan for 1,158 clients. We organized 2 expeditions to Mt.Everest, 1 to Kanchenjunga and 2 expeditions to Shishapangma. (More details here)

Explore Himalaya was the logistic partner for the GKN Mission Everest in May 2007 where Bear Grylls and Gilo Gardozo flew over Mount Everest by paramotors. They set a new World Record by flying over Everest on a specially developed and powered Paraglider (Paramotor). The mission was successfully accomplished on Monday early morning, 14th May 2007. Bear Grylls and fellow pilot Gilo Cardozo took off from Pheriche situated at 4240 meter (13910 ft) in Everest region in Nepal. 

There were celebrations galore at EH during the month of Sept '07: EH turned 10 years old, plus received an award for being the second highest revenue generator.

EH also participated in several international Travel & Trade Fairs in the year 2007. FITUR 2007(31st Jan - 4th Feb), held in Madrid, BIT (Borsa Internationale del Turismo) in Milan held from 22nd- 25th Feb, 41st ITB in Berlin (7th - 11th March), ASTA's International Destination Expo – Asia convention in Jeju, South Korea, from 25th to 29th March 2007, the WTM in London, UK (12-15 Nov’07) were the international Trade fairs that saw the participation of our company. All these forums proved fruitful for EH in understanding international tourism industry, internalizing the interests of consumers and building a network of contacts for business sustainability.

Future Events that EH plans to participate

In the forthcoming months, EH is scheduled to participate in the following international travel and trade fairs: Daily Telegraph Adventure Show (25th – 27th Jan' 08), FITUR 2008 (30th Jan -4th Feb) in Madrid, BIT (Borsa Internationale del Turismo) in Milan to be held from 21st – 24th Feb and ITB in Berlin (5th - 7th March).

appointments - new recruits in sales & marketing dept

EH is a company that is fast spreading its wings. In order to meet the burgeoning sales & marketing demands, the company has hired fresh recruits for its Sales & Marketing Dept.

A tourism training course is being conducted for the new recruits at HATT (Himalayan Academy of Travel & Tourism) in order to orient them on the workings of the tourism industry.

 Sky Diving over Mt. Everest planned in partnership with High & Wild  Adventures, UK

EH in partnership with High & Wild Adventures, UK has come with an exciting and exclusive skydiving program over the highest peak in the world Mt.Everest. This is a one of a kind adventure program and is the first ever skydiving program organized above Mt Everest (8848m/ 29,035ft.).

New fixed departures tours/treks in Nepal & Tibet posted & published

In our pursuit for excellence, we try to offer our clients the best in adventure, travels and tours that Nepal, Tibet, India & Bhutan to offer. We try to keep our clients abreast with our latest programs and tourism products. Everest (Nepal & Tibet), Shishapangma finalized for spring

asia world enterprises, bangkok (eh's partner) EMERGES victorious at The 4th intl elephant race, sauraha, chitwan

Asia World Enterprises, Bangkok (EH's Thailand partner) won laurels at the recently concluded 4th International Elephant Race 2007, held in Chitwan from 26th – 28th Dec 2007. The company's contender for the elephant race was Junga Bahadur who emerged as the sole winner in the preliminary as well as the final round. (More details here)

Nurturing Young Dreams – an update on EH's EOTO community project

EH's conscience has been its community service projects. These projects have been possible because of generous contributions from warm hearted patrons. We have an update on our Each One, Teach One project that was introduced last Feb to provide education to conflict - affected children. (More details here)

Miscellaneous

Yeti Airlines enters into partnership with air arabia

Yeti Airlines has signed an agreement with Air Arabia to form a joint-venture for the extension of aviation market between Nepal and the Gulf countries. According to this venture, the two airline companies will jointly establish a new low-cost carrier, based in Kathmandu, to provide affordable and convenient service to a broad range of international destinations. The new venture will have major share of Air Arabia and will apply its successful low-cost business model to the management of Nepal's first international LCC. The government has already approved the proposal.
The new carrier will begin operations within January '08. The first destination will be Sharjah and to selected destinations in India as well as to Doha and Kuala Lumpur.

Tribute to a great mountaineering hero - Farewell to Sir Edmund Hillary   

The world lost a great mountaineering hero and philanthropist, Sir Edmund Hillary, on 11th January'08. Sir Hillary, in addition to being a mountaineering giant, was also instrumental in the development of the far-eastern Solu-Khumbu region of Nepal. The development of Lukla airstrip and the hospital in Kunde, Naamche, to name a few of his projects. His memory shall always be cherished by the Nepalese and the hardy mountain folks of Solu, who regarded him as one of their own. We salute this great soul. May his soul rest in peace.
