All-Women Nepalese Mountaineering Team to scale the 7 Summits
April 30th : An all women team from Nepal who are on a mission to climb the world's seven summits will be attempting to scale Mt Kosciuszko in Australia this June. ‘Everest Women 7 Summits Eco-Action' team comprising of 9 members ( Pujan Acharya, Shailee Basnet, Maya Gurung, Ngawang Phuti Sherpa, Nim Doma Sherpa, Asha Kumari Singh, Chunu Shrestha, Usha Bista and Pema Diki Sherpa)  have already scaled the world's tallest peak, Mt.Everest in 2008. If they succeed they will be the first all-women's team to scale the world's highest 7 summits in all 7 continents.

Nepal at 2010 World Expo, Shanghai
April 30th: 2010 World Expo is all set to begin in Shanghai, China tomorrow. The Expo, with around 200 international organizations participating from the world over, is expecting 70 million visitors from home and abroad.Nepal will be promoting ‘Nepal Tourism Year 2011′ at the 2010 World Expo.

Kingfisher Airlines Launches Flights from New Delhi to Kathmandu
April 24th: On 24th April Kingfisher Airlines announced the launch of its daily flights from New Delhi to Kathmandu. According to a press release issued by the private Indian airline company, the flights on this route will be operated with Kingfisher Airlines' modern Airbus A320 aircraft. The New Delhi-Kathmandu flight offers excellent connectivity with Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai, Leh and London amongst other cities.

According to the daily flight schedule, the flight will depart from New Delhi at 1:30 pm and arrive in Kathmandu 3:25 pm. From Kathmandu it will depart at 4:35 pm and arrive in New Delhi at 6:00 pm.

Earth Day
April 22nd:Today is the fourtieth anniversary of 'Earth Day'. According to Earth Day Network, Earth Day is celebrated in 190 countries by one billion people. It was first celebrated in USA on April 22, 1970 when Senator Gaylord Nelson and Harvard University graduate Denis Hayes spearheaded a campaign that led to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species act in the U.S.

On a Mission to Clean-Up Everest
April 20th: An all - Nepalese team of 20 mountaineers, 31 Sherpas and 11 porters have taken up the initiative to clean up more than 2000 kg of garbage piled up on Mt.Everest.As part of the clean-up drive, the team plans to bring back discarded oxygen bottles, ropes, flags, dead bodies, and other waste materials scattered along the climbing trail and at the summit itself. Local business houses and organizations are helping this noble mission by financing the expedition, entitiled "Our Extreme Expedition 2010". The cost of the expedition is estimated at Rs 8 million.

Efforts on to conserve the fragile Mt. Kailash region
April 20th: China, India, and Nepal have agreed to work together to conserve the fragile environment around the Mt.Kailash region. International Center for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD),Wildlife Institute of India, the Forest Department of Uttarakhand, the Nepalese Ministry of Forests, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the G.B. Pant Institute of Himalayan Environment and Development, and the United Nations Environment Program will jointly work together on a project to preserve the fragile Mt. Kailash environment. International Mountaineers' Meet on 29th May
April 19th: Ministry of Tourism & Civil Aviation is organizing 'International Mountaineers' Meet' on May 29,to coincide with International Everest Day. Everest summiteers from the world over are expected to attend the meet. International Everest Day is observed every year to commemorate the first summit of Mt Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary on May 29th, 1953.

Mass meetings & vehicular movement barred from Kathmandu Durbar Square
April 18th: Hanumandhoka Durbar Square has been decalred a restricted zone for vehicles, mass meetings and assemblies, with the exception of religious gatherings by KMC, with effect from 18th April. Security personnels have been deployed in and around the restricted zone to strictly enforce the rule.

Nepal-Qatar Sales Mission 2010
April 16th: Nepal-Qatar Sales Mission 2010, a tourism promotional programme, was organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Doha at Ramada Plaza Hotel on April 14, 2010.The event was inaugurated by Dr. Surya Nath Mishra, Ambassador of Nepal to the State of Qatar. This event was organized to promote Nepal in Qatar. During the programme, NTB made a special presentation on Nepal Tourism Year 2011 campaign. Members from the travel fraternity, media persons and other prominent figures attended the programme.

KT Island Peak, Pokhalde & Lobuche Expedition - 2010
April 16th: Explore Himalaya and Kipling Travels organized an expedition for a ten-member Danish – Norwegian team to 3 Nepalese trekking peaks – Island Peak(6173m), Pokhalde (5806m) and Lobuche (6119m). (More)

Nepal Tourism Year 2011 (NTY-2011) Officially launched in Pokhara
April 13th: Nepal Tourism Year 2011 (NTY-2011) was officially launched in Pokhara on 11th April. On the occasion, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation Sarat Singh Bhandari reminded political parties of their commitment towards the NTY-2011 for its success. He also informed that the number of airlines will reach 33 by 2011. According to NTY-2011 working committee NTY-2011 is also going to be launched in Bhairawa, Nepalgunj, and Biratnagar on April 13, April 21 and April 23. The campaign will be launched in various districts of Nepal to create awareness among common people.

Tourist Arrivals-March
April 12th: According to data collected by Immigration Office, TIA a total of 44,431 visitors entered Nepal via air in March, recording a robust growth of 34.6%, as compared to the same month last year. (More)

Nepal at Guangzhou International Travel Fair (GITF)
April 12th: Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) along with four Nepalese travel trade companies participated at the 18th Guangzhou International Travel Fair(GITF) in Guangzhou, China from March 25th to 27th, 2010. Five hundred and six international companies participated at the fair, which is regarded as one of the most extensive and significant travel fair in Asia Pacific region. Visitors at the Nepal Pavilion mostly enquired about packages and special programs for Chinese during NTY 2011 and air connectivity between Nepal and different Chinese cities.

Hotel Shangri - La's expansion plans in Tibet
April 11th: The Shangri-La Group will be opening a branch in Linzhi, a scenic tourist destination in south-east Tibet. Shangri-La Group has signed an agreement with a Chinese company for the operation and management of 300 roomed deluxe resort.

An American teen dreams of summiting Everest
April 11th: Jordan Romero, a thirteen-year-old teen from California, USA, is all set to make an attempt to climb Mount Everest. If he is successful, he will be the youngest mountaineer ever to scale the world's tallest peak.

Cyclist Pushkar Shah to climb Mt. Everest
April 11th: Cyclist and adventurer Pushkar Shah, who has covered the world's major cities on a bicycle, is all set for another adventure. He set out on an "Everest Peace Expedition”, to Mt. Everest with a team of 11 on 7th April 2010. President of Nepal, Dr Ram Baran Yadav handed over the national flag of Nepal to Shah for his Everest expedition. Shah is also taking the flags of all 151 countries that he traveled to during the last 11 years, with him on his expedition.

Apa Sherpa's record 20th Everest summit attempt
April 11th: Climate Ambassador and 19-times Everest summiteer Apa Sherpa will be attempting a record twentieth summit bid to Mt. Everest as part of his crusade against Climate Change in the Himalayas. He will be climbing with the Eco Everest Expedition team led by fellow climate Ambassador Dawa Steven Sherpa. WWF officially handed over the Climate Change banner to Apa Sherpa at a function organized in Kathmandu on April 5th, 2010. The banner reads: "You heard our voice, now raise Yours - We can stop climate change in the Himalayas".

Dhaulagiri Golden Jubilee
April 7th: To celebrate the 50 years of Dhaulagiri Summit, the government has formed a 12-member Dhaulagiri Summit Golden Jubilee Main Organising Committee under the leadership of Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation secretary. The event is scheduled to be held on May 1. On the occasion, Reinhold Messner will be felicitated as First Dhaulagiri Summiteers.

NTY 2011 Organizing Committee comes up with a Three-Phase plan
April 7th: NTY 2011 organizing committee has come up with a three-phase promotion and preparation programme. The first phase was its formal launch, the second phase will be capacity building and product development, and the third phase will be promotion and marketing.

Finnish Scouts' Team summit Baden Powell Peak
April 6th: Six Finnish Scouts (Piitu, Ville, Leena, Anna, Maija, Mikko) & a Nepalese scout, Naresh Maharjan reached the summit of Lord Baden Powell Peak on 1st April 2010.The sherpas accompanying the team were Pasang, Gumbu, Najdang, Jugel Tendup, Grimen, Sona, Naresh, Da Wangchu, Sange.

Explore Himalaya had organized the expediton. The company extends its heartiest congratulations to the entire team!

Fulbari Resort opens office New Delhi, India
April 4th: Fulbari Resort & Spa, Pokhara, has opened its sales and marketing office in New Delhi, India with the mission statement of ‘Nepal Tourism Year 2011’. The resort plans to launch other branches Dhaka and Bangkok shortly.

Taskforce to conduct study on expeditions
April 1st: Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism has formed a 15-member taskforce to explore possibilities of opening and promoting Nepal's lesser known mountains and trails for expeditions and trekking. The taskforce is headed by Laxman Bhattarai, spokesperson and joint secretary at the ministry. The taskforce will also study the current procedure of handling expeditions and recommend ways to make it more competitive than the neighboring countries'.
