EXPLORE HIMALAYA TRAVEL NEWS & REPORT

A Group of 16 (Danish and Norwegians) does the Everest Base Camp Trek (October2007)

Claus Andreasen from Denmark is a tour leader from Kipling Travel (Explore Himalaya’s  Danish travel partner). He says he loves to visit Nepal and especially the classic Everest Base camp trek. Just back from his ninth Everest Base Camp trek with a group of sixteen trekkers (including himself), Claus visited our office and talked with us on the morning of 28th Oct’07. Talking about his trip he says, “We were a group of sixteen. Except for two Norwegians, all of us in our group were Danish. We arrived in Kathmandu on 10th Oct. The next day we had a sightseeing program in Kathmandu.  On 12th Oct we flew to Lukla from Kathmandu. From Lukla we trekked to Namche. We spent two days in Namche getting acclimatized. From Namche we trekked to Thame where we visited the Thame Gompa. On 16th Oct we took the trail to Kumjung. On the way we passed Kunde where we visited the hospital built by Edmund Hillary. The next day we trekked to Phortse and camped there. On the 18th we reached Pangboche and camped near the Gompa. The next two days we trekked to Pheriche and Thugla. On the 21stof Oct we reached Lobuche (4939m). On the 22nd we had a steep climb to Gorak Shep. We climbed up to Kala Pattar and enjoyed the magnificent views. On 23rd we trekked to the Everest Base camp at 5357m.We returned to Lobuche to camp for the night. On 24th we trekked to Devoche and camped at Ama Garden Lodge. On 25th we walked to Thyangboche and visited the monastery. We then proceeded to Lukla on the 26th of Oct. We stayed overnight and the next day boarded the return flight from Kathmandu. As usual I enjoyed this trek very much. Nepal is my favorite trekking destination. This is my sixteenth visit to this beautiful country and to the Everest Base Camp area the ninth. The trail to the Everest Base camp is just perfect. I would trek to this area again and again and not get enough of the beautiful sights and views. The natural beauty and the scenery of the places on the way just takes my breathe away! I would say to the trekkers who have not trekked to this area that you sure are missing out on an experience of a lifetime.”
